Muzaffarpur, Aug. 16: Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University (Brabu) has decided to introduce centralised evaluation process, ending the impassé over sending the copies to other universities.
Under the new system, answer scripts would be evaluated on the university premises.
The pro-vice-chancellor of the university, Padmasha Jha, told The Telegraph that the university has decided to evaluate nearly 70,000 answer sheets of Part II bachelor degree course examination under the centralised evaluation process.
Recently, controversy clouded the process of sending the answer scripts of first-year to Tilka Manjhi University, Bhagalpur, BN Mandal University, Saharsa, and Magadh University, Sasaram for evaluation. The copies did not have proper codes.
Former acting vice-chancellor Rajendra Prasad Mishra had given an order to send the copies to other universities for evaluation. The examination board, besides terminating Mishra’s order, issued a directive to expedite the process of correcting the answer scripts under the new process.
The pro-vice-chancellor said the university has appointed observers to ensure a fair evaluation of the first year bachelor’s degree answer sheets that are being evaluated outside the university. The copies are supposed to be examined only by the teachers of the constituent colleges of the universities.
Jha said the examination controller, A.K. Singh, has been reprimanded to mend his ways of functioning and also ensure that the examination department works in the proper manner, failing which he would have to face action.
Brabu vice-chancellor (VC) Bimal Kumar, who inspected the administrative building of the university, expressed a serious displeasure over the functioning of the examination department. He reportedly lost his cool recently when he saw several students loitering inside the examination department offices for pursuing their work.
“The employees of the examination department should deliver the goods and not harass students, especially those belonging to the far-flung areas,” a source told The Telegraph.
Thereafter, the VC held parleys with the heads of postgraduate departments and focused to speed up the pace of the research work into the departments of the university.
Kumar said: “The postgraduate department should create a model research centre in the respective departments to facilitate research work for students. The department pursuing research work should also come out with their journals.”
