Fraud institute
Patna: Around 50 people turned up at the Patna SSP's office alleging that they had been duped of money by Ashok Meritant Academy, which provided training for posts in merchant navy. An FIR against the institute was lodged in April last year at Danapur police station but no action was taken.
Police sources said an axe could fall on the officers of Danapur police station if it was found that they deliberately did not take any action even after the FIR had been lodged.
Rights panel
Patna: Bihar State Human Rights Commission on Thursday directed the home department to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the widow of Mohammad Noman. He had committed suicide inside Mufasil police station of Purnea district in the intervening night of August 21 and 22, 2004, by hanging himself. The commission also directed Purnea SP to inform it about administrative actions taken against the SHO, ASI and the on-duty constable within two months.
Bank seizure
Patna: State Bank of India seized 14 vehicles of car loan defaulters on Thursday. The bank will auction the defaulters' vehicles on May 17 at 11am. The bank plans to carry the exercise in future too to recover loans.

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday paid condolence to his wife Manju Sinha on her eighth death anniversary at his native village Kalyan Bigha in Nalanda district.

Patna: Director-general of police P.K. Thakur held a meeting with senior police officers on Thursday to chalk out a strategy to ease traffic on Gandhi Setu, which has been witnessing prolonged snarls for several months.
