Forgery slur on education officers

Patna, Jan. 11: A case of forgery and financial embezzlement was lodged against six senior officials of the education department at the vigilance police station here today. The officials included a regional deputy director of education and four district education officers (DEOs).

The officials have been charged under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code.

The officials made accused in the FIR (number 03/12) are Shyam Narain Keur, former regional deputy director of education of Kosi, Mahendra Prasad, DEO Saharsa, Ramashish Mahto, DEO of Supaul, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, DEO of Madhepura, Raj Deo Ram, DEO of Madhepura, Ratish Kumar, block education extension officer and Jyoti Das, the district school inspector of Saharsa.

The officials have been charged with committing financial irregularities during their tenure in Madhepura, Saharsa and Supaul districts under Kosi division between August 5, 2006 and June 20, 2010. They had transferred and posted teachers of different schools in violation of prescribed rules.

The divisional establishment committee of Kosi had received a complaint from one Anil Kumar Singh, a resident of Supaul district last year, alleging that more teachers were posted in unsanctioned posts in secondary schools of the division. They were also paid regular salaries for the entire period.

A senior vigilance bureau official said the department officials allegedly tampered with the documents to show more posts in the schools to accommodate teachers of their choice. “The officialshave been booked under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” the officer said.
