A team of experts from the state forensic science laboratory visited Begusarai town on Wednesday evening to collect fingerprints and other evidence in connection with two robberies.

Armed robbers had struck two houses separated by 1.5km at an interval of five hours and decamped with cash and valuable worth over Rs 15 lakh on Tuesday.

The criminals also threw a boy off the terrace of a two-storeyed building when he raised an alarm, leading to his death.

The members of the forensic team collected fingerprints from the incident sites and left for Patna.

“We are waiting for their reports, which will provide clue about the involvement of gangs,” Begusarai sadar deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Vivekanand said.

He added that a squad of sniffer dogs was pressed into service to get clues about the incidents. Raids are being conducted at all possible hideouts of the criminals.

“However, no substantial clue has been collected so far,” he said, adding that some suspects have been detained for interrogation. The police suspected involvement of a Gungunia gang in the two robberies.

Station house officer of Town police station Umakant said preliminary investigation suggested the involvement of the same gang in the two incidents. “The modus operandi of the criminals was similar in the two incidents,” Umakant said.

A special team has been set up by superintendent of police Chhatranil Singh for the arrest of the criminals and recovery of the loot.
