The state government has announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 11 lakh to the family members of Border Security Force (BSF) assistant sub-inspector Braj Kishore Yadav, who was killed during a militant attack on the BSF camp near the Srinagar airport on Tuesday.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar said Yadav's last rites would be performed with police honours.
Yadav, 50, originally from Bhagalpur district, is survived by his wife Ripi Devi and three children. The family has settled in Jharkhand's Sahebganj district.
Yadav's daughter Sushma Kumari, 18, said her father had promised to come home on November 17. 'He told us over phone about the leave being sanctioned,' the daughter said, her voice choking.
Yadav was posted in Jammu and Kashmir for the past seven years. He had last visited home in March this year.
Yadav's elder brother Raj Kishore is with the central reserve police force and is posted in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer. Yadav's eldest daughter Sandhya Kumari is married while his son Abhishek is studying engineering in Bangalore.
