Patna: The state government will organise a series of events from April 23 to 25 to mark the 160th anniversary of the victory of Kuer Singh, who played an important role in the first war for independence in 1857.

The event has been given the name Vijayotsava, which roughly means celebration for victory.

The inaugural event would be organised in Patna on April 23 where a life-sized statue of the freedom fighter would be unveiled by chief minister Nitish Kumar in the park, which has been named after him.

Also the same evening a laser show would be organised at the park depicting his acts of bravery.

A cultural event would also be organised at SK Memorial Hall in the evening.

On the same day Nitish and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi would receive a group of people at Jagdishpur Fort in Bhojpur who would walk from Shivpur Ghat to the fort.

It was near Shivpur Ghat where Singh had amputated his hand after being hit by a bullet fired by the British army.

"The chief minister and the deputy CM would also address a public meeting there," chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh said during a media interaction in which art, culture and youth affairs department principal secretary Chaitanya Prasad was also present.

He added that three buildings at Jagdishpur, which are associated with the life of the late freedom fighter, would be developed as museum depicting important things related to his life.
