Patna: Those alleging that the BJP would change the Constitution had themselves twisted the Constitution, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi declared on Tuesday at a Bihar BJP programme to mark the 43rd anniversary of Emergency.
"It is the Congress which twisted the Constitution during Emergency. It is really sad that those who changed the Constitution for safeguarding personal interests accuse us of tampering with it. They also accuse us of being intolerant, but what kind of tolerance was been exhibited by the Congress when it put an ailing JP behind bars?" Modi asked.
"Those who named their daughter after the infamous Misa, are now sitting in the lap of Congress," Modi said, going on to elaborate that during Emergency he was in jail along with Lalu Prasad who named his daughter after the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (Misa) but who had now tied-up with Congress.
"The BJP would never have any business with a party which is responsible for anti-Sikh riots, Bhagalpur riots and imposing Emergency in the country," Modi said.
Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the very ethos of the Congress was anti-democratic as it believed in promoting just one family.
The BJP is planning more events to harp on the Emergency. Bihar BJP president Nityanand Rai said the party would stage a protest near JP roundabout in Patna on July 1 in which questions would be asked from JP followers who were now with Congress.
