Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) would celebrate its eighth foundation day on Monday.

Education minister P.K. Shahi would be the chief guest, while Patna High Court Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi would be the guest of honour at the foundation day function to be held at Rabindra Bhavan.

The CNLU students have planned a series of cultural fest, including group and solo dance and skit.

A fifth-year graduate, Avinash Kumar, said: “The foundation day function would have series of programmes, including a welcome classical dance by girl students, a mime and a play.”

Highlighting this year’s achievements, CNLU vice-chancellor A. Lakshminath said: “The university introduced the BBA-LLB course apart from running its regular BA-LLB.”

The BBA-LLB course was introduced keeping in mind the demands of students. With the launch of the new course, the CNLU is now in the list of select few universities in the country that runs the BBA-LLB course.

It is a management-linked course, which educationists feel will boost the placement scenario of the university, as students can bag jobs in the corporate and trading firms.

The biggest weakness for the CNLU is providing placement to its students. This year, the placement was around 40 per cent. The average package offered to students was Rs 6.5 lakh.

This year, the state’s only law university also held its first convocation in February for the students of 2006-11 and 2007-12.

The function was presided over by former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir, the Chief Justice of Patna High Court, Rekha M. Doshit and others.

Recently, the CNLU students added another feather in the university’s cap, as a team from the institution was declared runners-up in the moot court competition at University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun.

The fifth-year graduate, Avinash Kumar, said: “Apart from the CNLU securing second position in Dehradun, we had also performed very well at a debate competition in IIT Kharagpur, IIT-Delhi and other renowned institutions.
