Edge-of-saddle show of faith

Gatka exponents show off their horse-riding skills at Gandhi Maidan on Friday. Chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav witnessed the traditional Sikh martial art display. The martial artistes in colourful attire performed equestrian stunts and presented mock fights with weapons including swords and wooden sticks. The stunts included one man riding two horses, and riders standing up while the horses sprinted. A video journalist and an artiste were also injured during a stunt. A horse, too, was injured when

Gatka exponents show off their horse-riding skills at Gandhi Maidan on Friday. Chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav witnessed the traditional Sikh martial art display. The martial artistes in colourful attire performed equestrian stunts and presented mock fights with weapons including swords and wooden sticks. The stunts included one man riding two horses, and riders standing up while the horses sprinted. A video journalist and an artiste were also injured during a stunt. A horse, too, was injured when it fell down while performing stunts. For some time, the show was stopped as Nitish got worried seeing people getting injured. However, no major accident occurred at the ground. Deputy inspector-general (central range) Shalin and senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj swung into action and asked all mediapersons to move out from the place where gatka was being performed. Tourism department principal secretary Harjot Kaur and district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal were also present. Nitish's son, Nishant Kumar, was also present on the occasion sitting next to Tejashwi.
