Muzaffarpur, April 3: The administration plans to shift former JD(U) MLA Munna Shukla from the sadar hospital to Khudiram Bose Memorial Central Jail owing to alleged violation of the Election Commission’s model code of conduct.

The sub-divisional officer (east), Sunil Kumar, accompanied by assistant superintendent of police Rakesh Kumar and deputy superintendent of police (city) Anil Kumar Singh, raided the hospital room of Munna on Wednesday night and recovered a Wi-fi router and an adapter. The team also found some people in the room who allegedly tried to flee on seeing the police.

“The recovery of the Wi-fi set proves that he remains in touch with his followers through the Internet using video chat,” said a police officer. According to the police, Munna spends most of his time hobnobbing with his supporters and people belonging to Lalganj Assembly segment and the Vaishali Lok Sabha constituency to help his wife script a win.

At present, Shukla stays in the hospital and reportedly meets visitors to chalk out strategies and ensure the victory of his wife Anu Shukla. His wife, a JD(U) MLA from Lalganj Assembly segment, who has been denied a party ticket to fight the Lok Sabha elections from Vaishali, is contesting as an Independent. The district magistrate-cum-district election officer, Anupam Kumar, and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ranjit Mishra had received complaints against Munna for holding meetings and mobilising support for his wife despite staying in the hospital.

When The Telegraph contacted Anu, she said her husband, who was ill, became a problem for the party all of a sudden when she decided to contest the polls from the Vaishali parliamentary constituency. She said: “I would tender a resignation from the membership of the Assembly and quit the party if the district police harass my husband.”

DM Anupam said he had sought a detailed report from SSP Mishra about the allegations made against Munna. “Necessary action would be taken on the basis of report to be submitted by the police,” he added.

Munna is facing life-term imprisonment for the murder of former science and technology minister Brij Bihari Prasad was transferred from the jail to the hospital on June 15, 2013, after he complained of chest pain and high blood pressure.

The chief medical officer-cum-civil surgeon, Gyan Bhushan, said doctors attending to Shukla had made a request to shift him from the jail to the hospital for proper treatment.
