Patna, April 30: Keeping daily wagers in mind, the state government has come out with a noble idea to help them save a day while availing a facility under Right to Public Service (RTPS) Act.

The government has decided to deliver the services through common service centres, known as Vasudha Kendras. A pilot project would start in Nalanda in the first week of May.

“The step to deliver benefits of RTPS through Vasudha Kendra has been taken keeping the daily wage earners in mind, as they end up losing a day’s employment if they have to visit a government office for availing a particular service,” general administration department principal secretary Deepak Kumar said.

“The same happens to them on the day they visit the office for availing the service. Going to a Vasudha Kendra would free them from visiting block office as these offices function in panchayats,” he told The Telegraph.

Set up under public-private partnership mode, Vasudha Kendras are small kiosks, which would have computers with Internet facility. The kiosks have been set up to deliver government-to-citizen and business-to-citizen among other services.

Kumar said people would have to pay Rs 50 for availing one service. He added: “The rate has been fixed by the information technology department to which those running the Vasudha Kendras are entitle for. People not willing to pay the fee can avail the service at block and district offices,” Kumar said.

Sharing details about preparations being made by the district administration to launch the new service, Nalanda district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said: “I have convened a meeting of Vasudha Kendra operators on May 1. After the meeting, the district administration would enter into separate agreements with them for delivering services.”
