Patna, Sept. 23: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today claimed to have busted an inter-state racket of dummy candidates in bank probationary exams. Two persons have been arrested and another has been detained for interrogation.
Acting on a tip-off, the CBI sleuths carried out simultaneous raids in Nalanda, Patna, Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi and arrested two persons — Alisha Verma, a probationary officer of UCO Bank posted at Eakangarsarai in Nalanda, and gang member Rohan Kumar of Nalanda. The special CBI court in Patna remanded them in judicial custody for two weeks.
Another member of the racket — Rajesh Kumar of Nalanda — has been detained for interrogation. The kingpin of the gang, Sanjiv Kumar, also of Nalanda, is still at large.
CBI sources said Sanjiv had got his wife Alisha selected as a probationary officer in the UCO Bank.
The raiding team seized incriminating documents, including marksheets, certificates, admit cards and photo identity cards of several candidates, from Sandalpur (Patna)-based rented house of Sanjiv.
“The ancestral house of Sanjiv at Telhara in Nalanda district was also searched,” an investigating officer said.
The members of the gang used to appear in written examinations for the recruitment of bank probationary officers impersonating as prospective candidates in lieu of money.
They also helped the job aspirants in interviews and ensured that they were finally selected.
Sources said Rajesh was taken into custody on Sunday from Noida when he went to appear in an examination conducted for recruitment in regional rural banks (Group-1) on behalf of one Kislay Kumar.
The gang used to charge anything between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 18 lakh from each candidate, the investigating officer said.
He said the members of the gang were sent to examination centres across the country by flights.
“Registered deeds of some of the candidates, who were selected earlier and appointed as probationary officers, have also been recovered,” the officer added.
The gang also used to register land in the names of its members.
