Patna, Aug. 10: The Met office did not record any precipitation today disproving forecasts of heavy showers, but weathermen claimed that it was a brief lull in the wet spell and rain would return to the city and the other parts of the state in the next couple of days.

“There was considerably less rainfall in Bihar today, but there is still high chance of showers in the state. In the next 48 hours, moderate rainfall is expected in all the districts of south Bihar. Light rainfall could occur in the districts of north Bihar. Few districts may also receive medium rainfall in the next 48 hours. Moreover, the cyclonic circulation existing over Jharkhand that has caused good rainfall in the state in the past three to four days still prevails. This will lead to rainfall for at least the next 48 hours,” said Abdul Sattar, assistant professor of meteorology, Rajendra Agriculture University, Pusa.

Animesh Chanda, director, Patna Met department, agreed with Sattar.

“Rainfall at many places in the state is forecasted for the next 48 hours. Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at isolated places in the state. At present, southeast Bihar is receiving the maximum rainfall. Moreover, the monsoon trough line is passing through Uttar Pradesh, Daltonganj in Jharkhand and Gangetic areas in Bengal at present,” said Chanda, adding that a warning for heavy rainfall in some areas had been issued in Bihar.

Chanda also said the total rainfall in the state is at present two per cent more than the normal average rainfall expected between June 1 and August 10. The rain-bearing winds entered the eastern parts of the state on June 15 this year and by June 17 it covered the whole state.

The city had received 41.7mm rainfall yesterday. Several parts of the state capital were flooded. The commuters had a tough time because of waterlogging.
