Purnea, May 10: A 24-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly killing his brother’s wife in an inebriated state.
The body of 22-year-old Sudeepa Devi, was found at her Rambag professor Colony house under Sadar police station on Monday evening.
The accused, Sujit Kumar, allegedly hit Sudeepa on her head after beating her up with a bamboo stick. She died on the spot.
The incident happened on Monday evening. Sujit, allegedly, went to his brother’s house in an inebriated state and started quarrelling with his sister-in-law.
The argument soon turned violent and eventually Sujit started beating Sudeepa with a bamboo stick.
Sudeepa received severe blows on her head and died of excessive bleeding.
A neighbour informed her husband, Aditi Mazumdar, who works at a medical shop at Line Bazaar, about the incident.
When Aditi returned home, he found the body of his wife lying in a pool of blood. He then lodged an FIR against his brother at Sadar Police Station, accusing him of murdering his wife.
Aditi told the police that his brother is an alcoholic and used to regularly quarrel with his family members, including Sudeepa. “He used to abuse me, my younger brother, my old mother and also my wife. Tired of his misbehaviour, the kitchen was separated and my wife stopped preparing food for Sujit,” Aditi said.
Sujit escaped from his house after committing the crime on Monday evening.
The police started a hunt and arrested him today afternoon.
