After a dream win in Kaun Banega Crorepati season V, it’s time for Sushil Kumar to spend the jackpot money with everybody in his 17-member joint family.

The first step in this direction is a Rs 40-lakh house spread over 3,000sqft, where Sushil and his entire family would live. The youth from Motihari, with a boy-next-door look, turned a national hero overnight by winning Rs 5 crore in the fifth season of the popular quiz show on television.

After winning the jackpot, the house would be Sushil’s first such luxury venture, where he plans to enter by June. Those constructing the house are busy giving final touches for the house warming. Sushil, who believes in the joint family system, said: “The house is all about my cherished dream of a healthy and united family. I had mentioned about such a house to BigB (actor Amitabh Bachchan) when I was in the hot seat in KBC. Amitabhji had asked me where I would like to spend the money first. I had said if I win the KBC, I would build a house where all my family members would stay together.”

Sushil’s luxury abode comprises seven rooms for five brothers (three are married), parents Amar Nath Patel and Renu Devi, grandmother, a guestroom and one for himself. Apart from this, the house also has a kitchen and a dining space. The kitchen of the 17-member family is the centre of attraction for residents of the town. People here have never seen such a huge kitchen, said a few villagers, at the time when nuclear families are in vogue.

A believer in “unity is strength” from a very early age, Sushil, had always dreamt of a simple house but big enough for an entire family to have food under one roof at one time. “Every member in our joint family, including the children of my brothers, should be able to get equal education in a good atmosphere. Life’s growth should start from this house,” said Sushil.

Besides, the former computer operator who was associated with MGNREGA projects, said there is enough scope of saving money in a joint family.

Citing example, the KBC winner said: “One vehicle in a family can serve the purposes of many. In a joint family, if the elders are conscious about maintaining a healthy and congenial atmosphere, there are endless chances of prosperity. Even if parents of some children are busy, automatically, the responsibility of guardianship passes on to the other relatives. This is how most of us grew up.”

Hailing the values of togetherness, the 30-year-old said though nuclear families are popular these days, there will come a time when most people would prefer staying together with their parents.

“At a time when most people are falling apart because of the micro family concept, the ancient joint family system would revive to preach the eternal importance of unity, values and moral education to the younger generation,” he told The Telegraph on Sunday.

Even after winning the Rs 5 crore amount, Sushil still yearns for a permanent job so that there is a regular flow of money. “For a normal life, you need to work and there should be a regular income,” said the postgraduate, who is trying hard to crack the National Eligibility Test-2013, scheduled in June.
