Patna, July 27: It was a tough fight but the students of Don Bosco Academy today brought laurels to school in the Patna leg final of Limca Book of Records Quiz 2011 held on their premises. Joson Pote, a national-level quiz master, shot the posers at the participants.

The event was jointly organised by Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited and Know and Grow with Derek, a brand owned by renowned quiz master Derek O’Brien.

The winners would now slug it out against 80 other schools across the country in the semi-finals. International School CBSE emerged the runner-ups. Around 264 students from 49 city-based schools had taken part in the competition. Each team consisted of two members in the contest today.

A 30-minute written preliminary round was held, where all the participants had to answer objective questions. Six schools competed in the finals that included Don Bosco Academy, International School CBSE, Delhi Public School, St Dominic Savio’s High School, St Michael’s High School and International School ICSE. There was also an audio-visual round, where the students had to identify the voice. In the visual round, participants were told to identify sports personalities.

The winning team was felicitated by chief guest Pradip Pandey, director, area operations (Bihar and Jharkhand), Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited and Limca Book of Records holder Taalanjay Thakur, a 12-year-old who holds the record of playing 14 tablas together without breaking the rhythm.

Daniel Jones, the relationship associate of Derek O’Brien and Associates Private Limited, said: “After the consecutive success of Limca Book of Records since 2008, this year the quiz is being organised in more than 3,500 schools to ignite young minds and make the pursuit of knowledge an engaging yet competitive process.”

He said the multi-city initiative has been launched in partnership with Know and Grow with Derek and Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited and involves participation of students from classes VIII to XII.

The quiz is being organised in three stages — city-level, semi-finals and the national final.

The final would be held in December and Derek O’Brien would be the quiz master.

The contest takes its name from the Limca Book of Records as the record book celebrates the outstanding achievement of Indians across the globe.

Pandey said: “At Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited, we believe that education is a catalyst for nurturing talent, allowing it to develop and excel. Such competitions are a great platform for students to learn, to grow and be competent, which are all a part of a student’s overall personality development.”
