Doctors have threatened to boycott work across Bihar if any action is taken against Bhagalpur civil surgeon in-charge S.P. Singh, who was raising money for a health conclave in the state.

Members of Bhagalpur branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Bihar State Health Service Association (BSHSA) warned the state government to not implicate the in-charge civil surgeon of the district, S.P. Singh, into any controversy.

The doctors have unanimously resolved to hit the roads if any action is taken against Singh.

The IMA convened an emergency meeting on Thursday evening after Bhagalpur district magistrate Narmadeshwar Lal in his confidential letter to health department principal secretary of the state, urged to take appropriate action against Singh. Singh had sent letters to doctors, private nursing homes and pathologists to donate a minimum of Rs 5,000 for organising the Swasthya Mahakumbh on April 29-30.

Singh later said he issued the letters after coming under pressure from the health minister. He said he withdrew the letters 24 hours after issuing them, after he realised his “mistake”.

Choubey expressed ignorance about the matter. “I don’t know about any action against the civil surgeon in-charge. I will follow the norms if such a thing came to my notice,” he told The Telegraph.
