Junior doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) are mulling a strike yet again owing to the police’s inability to trace their colleague Kumar Vijay Krishna, who went missing on October 19, casting a cloud on healthcare.
“According to the latest information we have, there is no clue of him. We had gone on a strike on November 6, demanding police action. The men in uniform had assured us that they were doing everything possible to recover him. On the same day, a special team was formed and the case was referred to the CID as well. But the so-called attempts of the cops have proved futile and our colleague is yet to be recovered.
“His family members are getting anxious with each passing day. We would hold a meeting on Sunday and this point will be raised. The principal of the medical college would be requested to have a word with the police. If things look dim, we will hold a meeting and proceed on strike. The plan of action would be decided by Sunday,” said Rakesh Kumar, the president of the Junior Doctors’ Association of PMCH, told The Telegraph on Friday.
“We are planning to meet the inspector-general of police again. It seems the attempts of the police have not helped. This is not acceptable and we have doubts on the way investigation is being carried out,” said Gopal Kumar, another junior doctor. At present, there are around 600 junior doctors at the PMCH.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jitender Rana accepted that the police were clueless. “We have been trying our level best and doing everything possible. However, the doctor has not been recovered until now and the police don’t have any leads. Raids have been conducted in several places but in vain. We will move court now seeking permission to attach the property of the main accused in the case. He is a contractor by profession living in the Boring Road area. The victim’s family had named him as the main accused,” the SSP said.
The healthcare at PMCH could be affected with the doctors’ strike. This case was the first major challenge for the new team of the city police and they have not been able to solve it as of yet.
According to investigations, Krishna was scheduled to get married to a relative of the contractor identified as Rajkumar. However, the marriage had been called off at the last minute owing to some issues and Krishna’s marriage had been fixed somewhere else.
After he went missing, his family had gone to the SK Puri police station to file a missing complaint and they had come across Rajkumar there. The man had said that his cellphone had gone missing and he had come to lodge an FIR. However, the victim’s family had found out the next day that Rajkumar had not lodged any FIR regarding a lost cellphone. The family then made him the primary accused. The family suspected that Krishna had been kidnapped and married off forcefully.
Krishna’s motorbike was recovered on October 19 evening parked along Gandhi Setu near pillar number 42.
The police said if he had indeed committed suicide, the victim wouldn’t have locked his bike and parked it.
