Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad complained of dizziness on Saturday morning after which he was taken to Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) where he underwent several check-ups.
It happened around 10.15am when he was at his 10 Circular Road residence.
Fortunately for him, his family doctor S.K. Sinha, who has been looking after his health for the past 20 years, was there and called up IGIMS. The authorities there asked him to bring Lalu to the hospital. Lalu has been granted provisional bail on medical grounds by the Jharkhand High Court and was undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. He applied for provisional bail for better treatment and the same was granted a few days ago.
After word from IGIMS, he went there with his family doctor and senior RJD leader and former finance minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui.
IGIMS medical superintendent Manish Mandal told The Telegraph: "He has come here with papers from RIMS, according to which he is suffering from diabetes, hypertension, blood pressure and chronic kidney failure. Valve replacement of his heart had already been carried out in Mumbai and his perianal abscess is recurrent. He suffers from five diseases, which were diagnosed at RIMS."
Asked about Lalu's health complaint, Mandal said: "He came here complaining of dizziness and fluctuating blood sugar, apart from weakness and a gas problem. We made him undergo heart check-up at the cardiology department, endocrine department for his blood sugar, nephrology department for his kidney. A neurologist and orthopaedic checked him for dizziness."
After undergoing check-up he was sent back to his 10 Circular Road residence. Lalu came to IGIMS at 10.30am and left around 11.30am.
Being a Saturday, it was a half-day at IGIMS. The facility stays closed on Sundays. Lalu will thus get his reports on Monday.
Lalu's family doctor Sinha said the RJD leader will go to Mumbai on Tuesday for further treatment at the Asian Heart Institute (AHI), where he has an appointment with Dr Ramakanta Panda, the vice-chairman and managing director of AHI. From there, he will go to Bangalore for treatment of his kidney at BGS Global Hospital.
Sinha said: "This is not the first time he has faced dizziness. Earlier also, he had once fallen in the bathroom but now, it has been decided that he will go to Mumbai and Bangalore for treatment."
