The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday announced to dismiss all 4,000 employees on strike if they failed to report on duty by Saturday morning. The decision was taken after divisional commissioner Anand Kishor convened a meting.
"We invited the union leader for meeting this evening but nobody turned up. Hence, we took a decision to hire new employees and dismiss those on strike. However, we would wait till Saturday morning. We have also issued advertisement for hiring labourers and vehicles," said PMC commissioner Jai Kumar Singh. Patna DM Sanjay Kumar Agarwal too attended the meet.
Singh added that all ward councillors have been requested to hire 15 labourers for their respective wards for sanitation related works. "A meeting has been called at the PMC headquarters in which all the ward councillors have been invited on Saturday," said Singh.
Chandra Prakash Singh, president, PMC Employees' Union said: "He is lying and has not told me about any such meeting. So far as the dismissing staff is concerned, I am not bothered and we will continue our strike until our demands are met."
