The education department on Thursday entered into a partnership with Microsoft Corporation India Private Limited to implement a pilot programme to launch digital literacy initiative in five government schools in the state.

The government believes that the initiative, which will commence next month through Microsoft’s education partner, Educomp, will allow the department to showcase models of future schools in the state and optimise use of computers by students and teachers.

The project “Window to the World” will aim to reach out to students, teachers and educational stakeholders to train them.

Five government secondary schools that have been chosen for the initiative include Ghanshayam Girls High School, Patna, Taramuni Bhagwan Shah, Bhojpur, Ramanand Sharma Memorial Project School, Jehanabad, Rajkiyekrit High School, Nalanda and Rajya Saposhit Girls High School in Vaishali.

Website record

Bihar has entered the Limca Book of Records for having the most comprehensive state website — www.brandbihar.com — adding to the state centenary celebrations.

The record mentions Bihar to be “the first state in India to have separate web page for every city and village”.

Bihar entered the record book last month.

However, the Brand Bihar team received the official mail on Wednesday from the associate editor of Limca Book of Records, M.K. Jose.

Brand Bihar, which was launched in 2009, is famous for rebuilding lost ties and reuniting families. Designed by Utpal Kumar, Prabhat Kumar and Saurabh Kumar, the web page has united 36 families since its launch.

Happy about entering the records, Utpal said: “It is a dream come true for us. Two years ago, we had applied to the Limca Book of Records and finally our name has appeared. I am speechless.”
