Muzaffarpur, May 9: Passengers travelling through Muzaffarpur railway Junction will no longer have to go hungry.
The Indian railways has made arrangements for delivery of plastic-wrapped food packets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All that the passengers have to do is to send a text message to the toll free number of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), stating the number of confirmed berths.
Passengers on trains passing through Muzaffarpur Junction under Sonepur and Samastipur sections of the East Central Railway can avail of this facility.
IRCTC has started the formalities of opening a food plaza at Muzaffarpur Junction. The food plaza is expected to be begin operations in June and IRCTC has already invited bids in this connection. The plaza will have a capacity to seat 32 passengers in its dining hall.
Earlier, passengers either had to go hungry or had to satisfy their hunger with the food supplied from the pantry car.
However, now, they can also drop in for breakfast, lunch and dinner and would be served the meal of their choice in no time. The divisional railway manager, Sonepur division, R.L. Gupta, inspected Muzaffarpur Junction to explore the possibilities of opening the IRCTC food plaza and interacted with the officials concerned.
More than 25 food items, including baked food, pastry, ice cream, burger, sweets and cold beverages will be part of the menu. The price of the different delicacies varies between Rs 35 and Rs 125.
