Patna: The IIT-Patna on Thursday organised its sixth convocation in which 282 students which included 173 BTech, 72 MTech, 22 MSc and 15 PhD scholars, received their degrees.
The convocation was held at Gyan Bhavan of Samrat Ashoka Convention Hall.
The chief guest of the convocation was Padma Shri Manas Bihari Verma, while the guest of honour was Manindra Agarwal, professor of computer science and deputy director, IIT-Kanpur. The institute chairman, Board of Governors, Ajai Chowdhry and IIT-Patna director Pushpak Bhattacharyya were also present on the occasion.
The degree recipients included three gold medallists Jatin Kalra, a B.Tech in mechanical engineering with the President of India gold medal for being academically best, Rohit Kumar, an MSc student with Aryabhatta Gold Medal for becoming academically best and Kumar Nishant Ujjawal with the Chairman gold medal for academically best in MTech.
Kumar Nishant Ujjawal, a Nawada youth working as assistant professor at JECRC University, Jaipur, said: "I want to pursue research in field from IISC Bangalore. Whatever I am today is due to IIT-Patna as the faculty members are the best and always ready to help students by clearing doubts and giving suggestions." Ujjawal, after completing his BTech from KIIT-Bhubaneswar, joined IIT-Patna for pursuing MTech. The institute awarded medals in eight categories separately for BTech, MTech and MSc students.
Verma said: "The new IITs have a multitude of opportunities in contributing to nation building and I am sure that IIT-Patna has already started to contribute its best."
IIT-Patna director Pushpak Bhattacharyya, in his director report highlighted the works and activities being carried out by the institute. He said the institute has currently 783 BTech students, 164 MTech students, 48 MSc and 397 PhD students. He said the placement process has set a new benchmark by attracting more than 80 numbers of recruiters this year. This year, IIT-Patna has placed 88 per cent of its BTech and 60 per cent of its MTech students with 180 offers.
According to the director, IIT-Patna has been ranked 108th in the QS BRICS Univesrity Rankings 2018. The rankings feature 300 top universities from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
