Muzaffarpur: Hundreds of traders, mostly jewellers from Sonarpatti, Purani Bazaar, Nayi Bazaar and Saraiyaganj, kept their business establishments shut for the second consecutive day on Friday to protest the murder of trader Rohit Kumar a couple of days back.

The angry jewellers under the aegis of Muzaffarpur Sangharsh Morcha decried police failure to curb crime and staged a daylong demonstration at Makkhan Shah Chowk to exert pressure on the police administration for the immediate arrest of the killers of Rohit.

The Muzaffarpur Sharaffa Sangh has decided to shut all jewellery outlets in the city for an indefinite period.

Sanjay Kumar, secretary, Wholesale Sharaffa Sangh, said the jewellers have decided to hold an agitation if the police failed to nab the killers. All the trade unions affiliated to North Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NBCCI) have given support to the ongoing agitation of Sharaffa Sangh.

The BJP MP from Muzaffarpur Lok Sabha, Ajay Nishad, met the zonal IG Sunil Kumar and urged him to intervene in checking the attacks on traders and curb crime in the commercial town. "Crime has raised its head and it is important to curb it ruthlessly," said the MP.

SSP Vivek Kumar said a team has been formed to trace the killers. "Raids are on. Some clues have come up and those are being verified," said the SSP. Traders have been requested to shun the path of agitation. Police patrolling has been intensified in the commercial hub.
