Patna, Oct. 21: Students from 13 city-based schools wracked their brains to make it to the final of “Quizzomania-2011”, an inter-school quiz competition organised by Invertis University, Bareilly, on Bihar Industries Association’s premises today.
Team from DAV, Khagaul, looked the best prepared for the competition and won the semifinals comfortably. They will now leave for Bareilly to take part in the final round of Quizzomania-2011, to be organised on November 12.
The schools which participated in today’s contest included lnternational School CBSE, RPS Residential School, Army Public School, Danapur Cantt, Mother’s International Academy, Radiant International Academy and BD Public School among others.
“We have already organized the semi-final rounds in different cities, including Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Ranchi. Altogether students from 12 different cities will take part in this event. Those who will win the semi-final rounds in the city-level contest will qualify to the national level contest which would be held on November 12 on our university campus at Bareilly,” Prince Raj, one of the quiz organisers, told The Telegraph.
“Students of DAV Public School Khagaul today won the city semi-finals. Now, they would represent their school at the national-level competition,” Prince Raj added.
DAV, Khagaul, won the competition after clearing several rounds, including lock my choice round, visual round and rapid fire round.
The competition started today with a preliminary round, wherein students from 13 city-based schools took part in a 30-minute written contest. The students were given 30 sets of objective questions in the preliminary round.
Each team comprised two students.
C. B. Pandey, a social science teacher at Army Public School, Danapur Cantonment, told The Telegraph: “We had organised a screening test before this quiz to select the best students for the competition. The students in the screening test had to answer some objective questions. We always hold such test before any competition and we refrain from the practice of choosing the same candidate again and again for a competition outside our school. In our school we believe in giving a chance to every student.”
While some schools organised pre-tests to choose the students, some other schools sent their old players to the contest. “We chose the best candidates who have represented our schools many times and have also won awards,” said Chandreshwar Singh, teacher, International School CBSE. He said the candidates from his school have won competitions like Dexterity last year.
