Patna, April 13: A senior officer posted in the Patna Collectorate has been accused of repeatedly raping his minor daughter for months.
Akhilesh Kumar Singh, posted as a senior deputy collector in the revenue section of the collectorate, was taken into custody late last evening after his wife, Nidhi Singh, lodged an FIR against him at Sri Krishna Puri police station.
Investigations went on the entire night during which the victim was sent for medical check-up. Singh was today produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) and was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said: “Initial medical tests indicate that the girl was subjected to sexual harassment. The man was arrested on the basis of the FIR and the medical report. Investigations are on. The case will be probed using scientific methods. The girl’s statement has been recorded and more detailed statements will be taken down.”
Sources said the family stays in an apartment in Alpana Market area under SK Puri police station.
While being taken to the CJM, Singh told the media: “Both my wife and daughter are mentally ill and under treatment for long. These allegations are baseless. The police too, without investigating properly, have arrested me.” Maharaj, however, said the police did not act in haste. Sources added that Singh had been sexually exploiting his daughter. Last evening, his wife had caught him red-handed. Singh threatened them with dire consequences if the matter was disclosed.
