Patna: The JDU expelled Rajiv Rawat, the son of former social welfare minister Damodar Rawat, from the post of state general secretary of the party's youth wing after his name cropped up in the Brajesh Thakur case.

During investigation in the Muzaffarpur Balika Grih case in which 34 minor girls were allegedly raped, the CBI found that Rajiv frequently visited a hotel owned by Thakur in Muzaffarpur district.

Taking cognisance, the JDU MLA and youth wing president Abhay Kushwaha expelled Rajiv from the party and post. "His name has cropped up in the Muzaffarpur case and we do not want to carry such allegation in the party. I have expelled Rajiv Rawat from the post as well as from the party. He is no more a JDU member. There is rule of law under Nitish ji's regime and we neither protect nor implicate anyone," Abhay Kushwaha told The Telegraph over phone.

Rajiv's father and former minister, Damodar, claimed that no showcause notice was served on his son before the action taken against him. Damodar claimed that his son was innocent and also stressed that he had never visited Muzaffarpur as social welfare minister.

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, however, claimed that for the wrong deeds of the father, the son was being targeted and the JDU should also take action against Damodar.

RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav iterated the demand of sacking another minister of chief minister Nitish Kumar.

He also wrote on his Twitter handle: "Bihar CM knows that minister is not only involved in Muzaffarpur mass rape case but safeguarding and shielding main culprit Brajesh Thakur. I just want to double check the moral standards of Nitish Kumar. In the end that minister has to go."

The JDU too demanded the sacking of Tejashwi's private assistant, Mani Yadav, who is chargesheeted in the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.

"Have some shame, Tejashwi Yadav. If you have the guts, why don' t you remove your private assistant, Mani Yadav, who has gone to jail in immoral trafficking prevention act," JDU spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar said.

Even BJP leader Suresh Sharma, who is the urban development and housing minister, asked Tejashwi to resign as being charge-sheeted in the railway tender scam case.
