This Makar Sankranti, milk and curd would be available in abundance with Patna Dairy Project (PDP) making elaborate arrangements for the faithful. The demand for milk and curd almost doubles around this period every year.
On an assuring tone, Sudhir Kumar Singh, managing director, PDP, told The Telegraph: “The demand for dairy products goes up on this occasion, as people place bulk orders. So, we have arranged for adequate supply. Till now, 19.5 lakh litres of milk have been sold and 3 lakh litres have been kept for tomorrow (Monday). Similarly, 1.10 lakh kg curd has been sold out and 25,000 kg of curd has been set aside for tomorrow. This year, the demand for both milk and curd has risen as compared to last year.”
He added: “Curd would be available in 200gm, 400gm, 500gm, 1kg, 2kg, 5kg, 16kg and 18kg packets. However, the milk would be available in the half- and one-litre packets.”
Swati Singh, a Buddha Colony resident, said: “Making the curd from joran (little amount of Lactobacillus put in milk) is a tedious job and it is easier to buy the curd from dairy outlet. Most importantly, curd is now available in packets of various sizes.”
PDP would park 20,000-litre milk tankers at Sudha booths near Boring Canal Road roundabout, Rajvanshi Nagar (near Hanuman temple), Kadamkuan, Kankerbagh, Mahendru and Patliputra Colony from 7am to 10am on Monday.
He said: “We are holding a Dahi Khao and Inaam Pao competition at Phulwarisharif on January 18. Interested people can send text messages to 9835035201, mentioning their names, age, addresses and sex, up to January 17. Registration will be done between 10am and 11am on January 18.”
Residents, on the other hand, have to fork out extra to relish crunchy tilkuts.
Owner of Sri Ram Tilkut Bhandar on Boring Road Sangeeta Devi said: “The price of til has jumped from Rs 60 to Rs 70 a kg last year to Rs 160 to Rs 185 a kg this year.”
Vandana Kumari, a Patliputra resident, said: “Till last year, I used to send tilkuts to my relatives. But now, I cannot send them. Sending small quantity of tilkuts will not look nice.”
