Patna: Police on Tuesday arrested two activists of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in Patna for their alleged role in demanding levy from a private construction company in May this year.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raids in different hideouts of PLFI activists Satyendra Kumar and Rakesh Kumar from the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Danapur and Rajiv Nagar police stations in the capital.
A country-made pistol and two live cartridges were seized from the possession of Rakesh, a resident of Belaganj in Gaya district. Both Rakesh and Satyendra had allegedly demanded Rs 4 crore as extortion money from the director of Veermani Private Construction Company, Arun Kumar.
Arun had lodged a complaint with Masaurhi police station in Patna rural in this connection on May 21 this year. The police said the two arrested Maoists had used latest technology to extort money from the company's director, police sources said, adding that the firm had been assigned been tender of Rs 40 crore recently.
Police said the arrested duo were considered close to Awadhesh alias Chuha, arrested two years ago for conspiring to blow up vital installations in Patna City sub-division.
Bahadurpur Housing Colony had earlier become a safe haven for PLFI members, police sources said.
