Patna: A gang of criminals robbed a woman of Rs 9.5 lakh in an area falling under the jurisdiction of Chhaurahi police outpost in Begusarai district on Thursday evening, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred when Sangeeta Devi was returning home at Hasanpur in Samastipur district after withdrawing the amount from a private bank at Rosera in Begusarai district by bus.

The robbers in their early-20s intercepted the bus near Sone College on Daulatpur-Malipur road and snatched the bag containing money from Sangeeta at gunpoint. They threatened her with dire consequences when she tried to offer resistance.

The criminals sped away with the booty on their motorbikes.

The victim later reported the incident to Chhaurahi police outpost, which registered a case against unidentified persons on her statement. "Raids are underway to nab the criminals," said an investigating officer.

The woman informed senior police officers about the daylight robbery on a running bus. "It seems that the robbers were following her from the bank itself," said an investigating officer.

He said the police have already identified the gang involved in the incident.

Begusarai superintendent of police Aditya Kumar said the case would be cracked soon, as the police have got vital clues.

The superintendent of police said that the police picked up some suspects for interrogation.

"Raids are underway on the basis of information given by the suspects," he said.

Referring to the murder of a father-son, the Begusarai superintendent of police said five persons had been arrested in connection with the incident, which took place on April 24 this year.

The arrested told the interrogators that the gang of criminals shot at Om Prakash Agrawal and his Arun when they refused to hand over their motorbike.

The arrested include Mohammad Jaheed, Mohammad Javed, Prabhat, Rishi and Sumit, all residents of Begusarai and Rahul Kumar, a resident of Khagaria district.

The father-son duo was attacked when they were returning to home after closing their shop.

The arrested also confessed to their involvement in another motorbike loot case lodged on January 15 this year.
