Patna, Sept. 23: Five murders, a threat to a ruling party lawmaker and an attempt to rape a middle-aged woman in the past 24 hours reflect the state of law and order in Bihar.

While an elderly couple were bludgeoned to death in Begusarai, a teenaged girl was murdered by her jilted lover in Siwan followed by the killing of two persons in separate incidents in Supaul and Vaishali.

In addition, a medicine dealer was kidnapped from Chhauradano in East Champaran district. A railway employee made an abortive rape bid on a middle-aged woman at Nadwa railway station in Patna rural last night.

Police said a 70-year-old Chandeshwar Prasad and his wife, Yashoda Devi (65), were bludgeoned to death in their sleep in their outhouse at Dharampur village under the jurisdiction of Garhpura police station in Begusarai district, around 130km northeast of Patna, late on Friday night. <>Early on Saturday morning, other members of the family found the couple murdered in their room. The door was ajar. The family immediately alerted the police who rushed to the spot and inquired about the incident. The blockade was removed after intervention of senior police officers who promised to bring the killers to book at the earliest. However, police have made no breakthrough in the case so far. The incident occurred when the victim went to relieve in a field early on Saturday. Locals told the police that the girl cried for help but nobody could muster courage to prevent the killer, who threatened to eliminate others. The victim was rushed to the local government hospital where the doctor declared her brought dead.

A railway employee allegedly tried to rape a woman at Nadwa railway station in Patna rural. The woman lodged a complaint with the local Government Railway Police, who detained the accused for interrogation.

The incident happened with the victim was waiting near the women waiting room after alighting from a train at the railway station late in the night. Her husband was also thrashed by the accused when he protested the rape attempt.

On Friday, four persons were killed in separate incidents in the state.
