Two Munger college students were allegedly killed in a suspected crime of passion.
Friends allegedly killed Rohit Kumar and Summi Kumar, Intermediate students at two different colleges here, for being in love with girls who were their love interests.
Rohit and Summi had gone missing on September 3. Summi’s body was recovered from the Ganga on Monday.
The two were residents of Shastri Nagar locality under Kasim Bazaar police station of the town.
Sharing details of the crime, Munger superintendent of police (SP) Varun Kumar Sinha said: “Rohit and Summi were called by four friends to a party at Sitakund Deeh on the bank of the Ganga on September 3. There, they where shot dead and their bodies thrown into the river.”
Police recovered Summi’s body from the river near Sultanganj in neighbouring Bhagalpur district.
A search was still on to recover Rohit’s body at the time of filing of this report.
The SP said two suspects — Ratan Sah and Vikram Yadav — had been taken into custody and had confessed to their involvement in the crime. “We are now conducting raids to nab two other boys involved in the crime according to the two youths arrested for the gruesome murder,” Sinha said.
Police suspected foul play and involvement by friends of the deceased in the murder after Rohit’s motorcycle was recovered from Vikram’s house. He had changed the two-wheeler’s number plate to hoodwink the police.
The arrested boys then spilled the beans.
They told the police they had hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Rohit and Summi because of their proximity to two girls the four boys were interested in.
Forensic experts reached the place of crime and found bloodstains on the ground near the place identified as the spot where the boys were murdered.
The experts also recovered blood-stained trousers from the house of one Kamarjeet Singh, the third accused in the case, absconding till reports last came in.
The police are yet to establish the identity of the fourth boy alleged to be involved in the crime.
They are still conducting raids to ascertain information provided by the arrested boys about the fourth person involved in the crime.
Rohit’s father, Arun Yadav, and Summi’s father, Manoj Mahto, have expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of investigation in the murder case.
“We had informed the police that our sons were missing on September 4 itself. But the police didn’t do anything to find their sons initially,” they said.
They said the police swung into action only after they met additional SP S.K. Singh.
A teacher at the college Rohit studied in said, on condition of anonymity, that the boy had a dubious background. He used to keep the company of criminals.
The police refused to comment on this aspect.
They said they were busy conducting raids to nab the absconding suspects in the murder case.
