Patna, Feb. 1: Budding designers from the fashion designing department of Patna Women’s College showcased their creativity and talent through designer items of daily utility, accessories, ornaments and home décor on the college premises today.

The collection titled, Hues 2011, aimed at giving homes an exquisite look with designer bags, clutches, candles, hand towels, lampshades, cushion covers, kurtis, dupattas and other things used at home.

Tanuja Kishore, co-ordinator of post graduate diploma in fashion designing (PGDFD) at the college said the items displayed at the exhibition would be put up for sale at the upcoming Mahila Udyog Mela in the capital from February 10.

“The idea behind the exhibition is to show that fashion and design are not only limited to garments and accessories but they can be extended to items of everyday use too. There are about 25 girls in the PGDFD course and a few others in add-on courses. All the items exhibited here have been designed and created by them with the help of faculty. The girls are very talented and their imagination is visible in the creations,” said Kishore.

One of the most striking items at the exhibition was mannequins draped in different types of evening gowns.

A closer look at the human-size figures revealed that the gowns were not stitched anywhere and were just draped around the mannequins.

“This type of clothing is popular in some European countries and some of our students have become experts in it,” said Asha Pandey, a faculty member. “I appreciate the creativity of my students. They have come up with many impressive designs. It was not long back that we started preparing for the function and the enthusiastic students have been working day and night to get the items ready and have shown so much of imagination and innovation,” said Pandey. She added: “We are here to give them the technical guidelines but the journey is their own and so we let them meet the challenges.” Vasundhara Verma, a student, said designing was her passion and events like these are opportunities for students to hone their skills.

“We have worked day and night to make this exhibition successful. We have picked things like asymmetric wooden pieces and painted Worli and other motifs on them and have turned them into tea coasters. We hope people like these ideas at Udyog Mela when we put these things for sale there.”
