Court awards 10 years

 Purnea (PTI): A court in the district on Thursday sentenced Bipin Rai to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a Rs 50,000 fine on him after finding him guilty of raping a woman.

Eighty per cent of the fine will be given to the victim and the rest will go to the treasury.

Graft charge

 Patna (PTI): The vigilance investigation bureau caught a junior engineer from the irrigation department - Satyendra Kumar - accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 in Nawada on Thursday.

New premises

Patna: The new building of Punjab National Bank's Baikathpur branch was opened on Thursday.

Charity

Patna: NTPC, Kahalgaon on Thursday distributed stationery items and sweaters to 500 children of Madya Vidyalaya in Maheshamunda village.

Cops net 5

Patna: Five members of the Anand Mistri gang were arrested in cases of loot and murder from Deedarganj and recovered three pistols and eight live cartridges from them.

Four burnt

Patna: A woman set herself and her two children ablaze in Mahuli village on Thursday. The woman, identified as Runa Devi and her two children, Rohit (3), and Suraj (4), died on spot.

Conference

Patna: Debabrata Samanta and Babu Lal Mishra have been invited to present research papers on Land Governance at the prestigious 2016 Annual World Bank Conference on land and poverty, to be held from March 14 to 18 at the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC.

Fellowship

Patna: Rohit Kumar, a student of Central University of South Bihar has been selected for a summer research fellowship in chemistry, offered by the National Sciences Academies.

Officer shift

Patna: IAS officer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh was transferred from the panchayati raj department. He has been made director-general, Bihar Public Administration and Rural Development Institute. Arvind Choudhary, a 1995-batch IAS officer and secretary of rural development department, has been given additional charge as secretary of the panchayati raj department.
