Chhapra, Feb. 19: Women of Saran district would no more have to hesitate to lodge a complaint with cops. They can now walk in to the all-women police station boldly for the same. If required, cops would visit complainants’ home.

Muzaffarpur range inspector-general of police (IG) Gupteshwar Pandey today inaugurated the maiden all-women police station of the district, constructed on the premises of Chhapra Town police station. This is the second such police station in the Saran commissionerate. At Siwan, an all-women police station was inaugurated in December 2011.

At present five women constables and an officer in-charge are posted at the all-women police station at Saran. In future, two more assistant sub-inspectors will be posted there.

Inaugurating the police station, the IG said all-women police stations would come up in all the district headquarters. He said the move was aimed at empowering women.

The idea of all-women police station was floated in the state to stop atrocities and torture on women. Earlier, women avoided police stations dominated by male officers.

“This scenario will change now. Women can come to the all-women police station and lodge their complaints without any fear and hesitation,” said a senior officer.

Pandey said women from any part of the district could lodge their complaint at the all-women police station. Now even women officers can go to the houses of women who cannot come to police station because of family restraints and are behind veils, if they message their complaint, he said.

The newly appointed station in-charge of all-woman police station, sub-inspector Amita Singh said she had been given a huge responsibility.
