Two sisters, who were allegedly abducted on May 24, were rescued and produced in the Darbhanga court of chief judicial magistrate P.K. Dikshit on Saturday.
The duo were handed over to their family members after their statements were recorded before the court under Section 164 of the CrPC.
On May 24 evening, one Rameshwar Singh and his aide had allegedly abducted the two girls. Singh had attacked one of the girls’ house at Habidih village under Baheri police station and beat up her mother and two aunts on the same day. Sources said Rameshwar had abducted the girls after his niece eloped with one of the girl’s brother on May 24.
The siblings were shifted from one hideout to another between Thursday evening and Saturday morning before the police finally recovered them.
A girl’s mother registered a case against 19 people, including Rameshwar, Guddu Singh, Dayanand Singh, Bhup Singh and others with the Baheri police station. The persons were accused of abducting the two girls and thrashing their family members.
Senior superintendent of police Garima Malik told The Telegraph: “We have directed the station house officer of Baheri, Daljeet Singh, to arrest the persons whose names are in the FIR. Raids are being conducted and we expect a breakthrough soon. However, no arrest has been made so far.”
The police are yet to find the whereabout of the couple on the run.
