Police on Sunday evicted 26 families who had encroached upon the Patna Sahib Railway Station Road in Patna City where a flyover is to come up.
Chowk station house officer Pushkar Kumar, who led the drive, said: “The families were living in huts on the land meant for a flyover. They vacated the plot without offering any resistance.”
The proposed flyover would connect NH-30, Patna Sahib Railway Station and Guru Govind Path and would help alleviate the traffic pressure in the Patna City area.
Kumar said they had not made any effort to evacuate the land earlier. “The construction company had been working on the project at a slow pace. But, they have now decided to speed up the process. Therefore, we carried out the encroachment drive so that construction of the flyover can be completed,” he said.
One of the squatters Mahesh Kumar, however, differed with the administration’s view. “The police were trying to evacuate the land for the past three months. We had asked for tents but these were not being provided to us. However, today we were provided with tents and compensation, so we vacated the place.”
