Ara, Aug. 17: A policeman allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a rifle at Nanaur village under the jurisdiction of Sahar police station at Bhojpur district this evening.

Sahar station house officer B.P. Yadav said: “Parmesh Kumar of Bihar police committed suicide with a rifle on Saturday evening at Nanaur village.” The deceased was a resident of Bettiah. Piro sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Chandan Puri and other officials rushed to the spot on receiving information. The SDPO said the reason behind the suicide would be ascertained only after an investigation.

In another incident, NSUI activists today burnt the effigy of Veer Kuer Singh University vice-chancellor (VC) P.N. Singh and staged a dharna in front of the VC’s office in protest against the alleged corruption prevalent in the varsity.
