Cop dead in mishap

Darbhanga, June 23: A police constable, hurt in a road accident last night, died at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early this morning.

The constable, identified as Abdul Zabar from Chhapra district, was part of patrolling team hit by a truck on National Highway-57.

Abdul Zabar, two other constables — Sikandar Purti and Harendra Yadav — and senior officer Aslam Khan were on night patrol when a truck coming from Muzaffarpur rammed their vehicle stationed at t he highway.

The truck too lost balance and overturned after travelling a little further. The driver and helper, however, managed to flee the spot.

All three injured police constables were rushed to DMCH. While one constable, Harendra Yadav, was discharged after first-aid, the other two were admitted for treatment.

Zabar succumbed to his injuries early in the morning while the other constable, Sikandar Purti, a native of Chaibasa district of Jharkhand, was still under treatment. All constables had come from Saharsa district for senior-level training to Laheria Sarae Police Line, said Shah Jahan Khan, a constable taking care of injured Purti at the hospital.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Vikas Vaibhav told The Telegraph: “The family of the constable who died on duty would be provided compensation as per government norms.”

Cop suspended

An officer in-charge, Shivjee Singh of Sakatpur Police Station, has been suspended on the charge of not registering FIRs in several cases. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vikas Vaibhav said he had received several complaints against the officer earlier during his janata darbars. Singh had been warned before. However, after a fresh complaint was lodged against the officer by one Osama Khatun of Sakatpur, action was initiated against him, said the SSP.
