Patna, March 26: The Congress has drafted a four-member team to look into Sunday's attack on its members during the first phase of the Kishan Majdoor Nyaya padyatra from Patna to Gaya.
'Six workers, including Dhiru Yadav, Minnat Rehmani, Upendra Ram and Ranjit Mishra, were injured at Makhdumpur in Jehanabad, about 70km south from the party's state headquarters in Patna. We have drafted a four-member team led by Vijay Shankar Mishra to probe the incident and it will submit a report in 10 days,' Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) president Ashok Choudhary said on Thursday.
Ashok expressed happiness over completion of the first phase of the padyatra to create awareness among farmers and labourers about the proposed amendments to the land acquisition bill and for better implementation of MNREGA in the state. He also shared information gathered during the yatra. 'We visited many villages where there were no Congress party workers. We have tried to connect with the farmers. They feel cheated and are disappointed with the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.'
The second phase of the padyatra would commence from the party office in Patna on April 7. The 225-km journey would touch Vaishali and East Champaran and conclude at Gandhi Ashram in West Champaran in 10 days.
'The attack on our members has made us determined to proceed on the padyatra's second phase. Actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar and retired senior police officer Ajay Kumar will join the second phase. Likely to join are Sachin Pilot and Jyotiraditya Scindia,' Ashok said.
BJP event
Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu would visit the city on Friday to take part in a programme to be organised by the BJP.
