Complex love finds way into test answers

School annual exam questions on civil suits and land erosion take students on flight of imagination

Patna, April 15: Tagging currency notes with answer sheets to influence evaluators to obtain pass marks is passé.

Evaluators examining answer sheets of the recently concluded examination of Class VIII annual examination came across some interesting answers of the questions in the social science paper.

For most of the students of a government middle school at Bihia in Bhojpur district, it was a simple question: " Diwani mamle kya hote hain (what are civil suits)?". But for some students, the question was related to heart.

One of the examinees wrote in his answers sheet: " Yeh woh mansik sthiti hai jab ladka ko ladki se pyar ho jata hai aur uska mansik santulan bigad jata hai (It's that state of mind when a boy falls in love and thus loses his mental balance)."

Much to the chagrin of the evaluator, another examinees answered: " Diwani mamle woh hai jab koi ladki kisi ladka ko dhokha deti hai (civil suits are those in which a girl ditches a boy in love)."

A third examinee wrote: "It's a state of mind when a lovelorn youth gets mad after being ditched by his girlfriend."

Yet another examinee went on sermonising lovelorn youths.

"One should not fall in love with any girl. There are chances of getting your career spoilt. It's sheer waste of time," wrote an examinee, who, it appears, as if he had bitter experience of it.

For yet other examinee, diwani (civil) cases were a state of mind when a boy falls in love at first sight.

" Aaj kal Bihar mein diwani mamle kafi aa rahen hai (these days, civil suits are on the rise in Bihar)," wrote another examinee.

Similarly, the majority of students were not aware of the correct answer mrida apardan (soil erosion).

An examinee wrote: "When a husband dies and his widow commits sati, it is call mrida apardan."

Needless to say, the answer such examinees presented a poor picture of the state of affairs prevailing in most government schools in the state. Last year, the state hogged the limelight for mass copying at an examination centre in Vaishali district.

A photograph showing the pairvikars (guardians) providing chits to the examinees caught the attention of the people the world over.

Later a video depicting such scene at examination centres went viral on social media, prompting the state government to order an investigation.

When contacted, Bihia block education officer Satyendra Kumar said he was not amused by such bizarre answers.

"It's true that several schools still don't have teachers of social science. So the students don't have proper knowledge of every subject," he added.

Efforts to contact the district education officer and the district magistrate, however, proved futile.

"They are busy in dealing with the law and order problems related to Ram Navami celebrations," said an employee at the district magistrate's office.
