Patna, Aug. 1: Chief minister Nitish Kumar’s janata darbar today exposed a truth that the administration would have liked to keep under wraps — poor policing.

The weekly darbar had unexpected visitors today as deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi’s cousin Rekha Modi and her daughter Urwashi complained about police inaction against her brother Mahabir Modi for allegedly insulting and mentally torturing them inside their house.

It can be gauged from Rekha’s complaint as to what the common man has to face. It also lays bare the facade of competency, which the police claim.

Rekha also alleged that she and her daughter are not allowed to meet her parents by Mahabir, whom she charged with confining them. Rekha said: “Sir, the police are not taking any action against my brother who has been insulting me from a long time. He has installed a closed-circuit television camera at my house to keep an eye on me. Even the high court has taken the matter into consideration and has ordered him to allow me and daughter to meet my mother.”

She added: “I went to the police many times but they have not taken any action against him. He has even threatened to kill my daughter and me. My father Kashi Prasad Modi is missing for a few months and my mother Geeta Devi, who is 77 years old, is in his confinement. Mahabir does not allow us to meet her.”

Both Rekha and her brother Mahabir stay at Rajendra Nagar locality. Sometime back, they had some conflict with each other and since then, Rekha has accused Mahabir of confining her parents.

After hearing Rekha, Nitish called upon senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar and district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh and asked them to look into the matter. Rekha also alleged that Mahabir had threatened to rape her daughter. Alok Kumar told The Telegraph: “First we have to investigate the matter and then only we can do anything. As far as her complaint is concerned, we will follow the court order and action would be taken.”
