Patna, June 28: Several colleges in the city have moved on to the online admission process. Not the oldest one. The website of Patna College is still “under construction”.
The college has an URL, though. But when people log on to www.patnacollege.org, the only information they get is the website is “under-construction”.
Be it the cut-off marks or the admission list, students have to check them coming to the college physically. With no online information available, very few students today turned up at the college to take admission.
Sources said only 30 students came for admission. According to a notice issued by the college administration, general category students are supposed to take admission between June 28 and June 30. The total number of seats under this category is 300.
Officials at the admission counter claimed that many students had not turned up because they were yet to get their marksheets and other certificates from the Intermediate Council or CBSE. They added that the absence of information was another reason for the low turnout.
Tamanna Khan, a passout of the college, said: “Students face several problems because of the defunct college website. We have to approach the college administration for any information we need. This is a lengthy and time-consuming process.”
She added: “Admission seekers also face a number of problems. They are often not sure of the cut-offs, the date for filling up forms or for taking admission.”
Randhir Kumar Singh, a teacher, said: “This (defunct college website) is a serious matter. The college has a rich history and a glorious list of alumni. This and other information could be posted on the website.”
Another teacher, on condition of anonymity, said: “Lack of efforts on the part of the college administration is the main reason why the college does not have an official website.”
K.N. Paswan, principal in-charge, Patna College, claimed that the administration had tried a number of times to develop the website but in vain.
“Lack of funds is the main reason behind the college not having an official website,” Paswan said.
