Patna, Aug. 10: The clash on Patna College campus between the boarders of Minto Hostel and Jackson Hostel once again revealed the ugly face of campus chaos that has plagued Patna University (PU) since 1990s.

Sources said the series of clashes in the recent times were similar to the troubles on the campus that led to the death of a student in the last decade of the previous century.

A former PU student said: “The series of clashes on PU campus reminds us of the time when similar clashes had rocked the campus in the 1990s. At that time, PU hostels were divided on caste lines. While students hailing from the Bhumihar caste occupied the hostels of BN College, Yadavs inhabited the Law College hostels.”

Rajesh “Tiger” Yadav, a student leader of the Law College, was killed as he staged an agitation against coaching institutes.

“Tiger was killed on the Law College campus,” said Dhiraj Yadav, a former student of Patna University.

Rajesh and his two friends, Kaushal Yadav and Vinod Yadavendu, had tried to pressurise the state government to enforce the registration of coaching institutes and also fix the rent of lodges where many students were forced to live.

Randhir Kumar Singh, a teacher of Patna College, said: “Tiger was murdered by the coaching mafia, as he and his friends posed a danger to them and the lodge owners.”

Randhir’s statue was installed on the Law College hostel campus and was inaugurated by former chief minister Lalu Prasad.

Sources said not much had changed since then, as clashes between different groups continued on the campus.
