Patna, Aug. 18: The BJP’s state unit today said the Congress-led UPA government should resign and pave the way for holding elections.

BJP state president C.P. Thakur said this while reacting to the CAG report criticising the Union government for causing loss of Rs 1.86 crore to the state exchequer by allocating coal mines without bidding.

“The UPA government has completely failed to curb corruption. Instead, scams have surfaced one after the other at regular intervals. The government should resign and hold elections so that new dispensation could run the country,” Thakur told reporters at the party’s state headquarters.

The party, which has been fighting against corruption right from the road to the Parliament, will intensify the movement further if the Manmohan Singh government does not resign.

“The UPA government broke all its previous records of scam at least in terms of magnitude,” Thakur said, adding that when the Commonwealth Games scam and 2G happened, people thought there cannot be a scam bigger than 2G scam but there is yet another scam in the allocation of coal blocks which has surpassed all records.

Thakur, who was accompanied by BJP vice-president Hari Shanker Sharma and spokespersons Rakesh Kumar Singh and Ashok Bhatt, held the UPA government responsible for bringing a situation where people from northeastern states have been leaving cities like Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune. The government has completely failed to restore the confidence among the people of the Northeast that no harm would be done to them, he added.
