Muzaffarpur, March 6: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today pledged uninterrupted power supply to north Bihar districts in the near future and hoped that the state would be in a position to sell electricity to power-deficit states soon.

After laying the foundation of the extension unit of two 195MW thermal chimneys at Kanti Thermal Power Station (KTPS), 18km from the district headquarters, he told a gathering that that the two units would become fully operational by the end of 2015.

Nitish, who was accompanied by energy minister Bijendra Yadav, added that the government was striving to become self reliant in terms of electricity consumption. The CM inspected the premises of KTPS and held an interaction with senior National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) officials.

BSEB has stuck a deal with Kanti Bijla Utpadal Nigam Ltd and NTPC for setting up the two units that would generate 195MW each. The Centre has so far allotted Rs 4,000 crore for the expenses towards the two units. “The state is aiming to generate surplus power. The day is not far when the state would provide electricity to neighbouring countries and states,” Nitish said.
