Patna, Oct. 7: Decency is still the chief minister’s priority — even towards his political opponents.

Former CPI MP Ramashray Prasad Singh on Monday turned up at chief minister Nitish Kumar’s janata durbar alleging “atrocities on poor people” by Atri police station house officer in Gaya district.

The 91-year-old leader was about to be thrown out by the security personnel on duty but Nitish asked them to guide him politely to his table. The chief minister offered him chair and heard what the veteran leader had to say. No sooner had Ramashray finished his narration than Nitish called up Sushil Khopde, IG, Patna zone. “Please have a talk with Ramashray babu, a senior and veteran leader. He has some complaints and ensure that his concern gets redressed,” the chief minister was seen ordering Khopde.

Khopde took Ramashray to his table and asked about the complaint.

Ramashray, who was MP for four terms and MLA for two terms from Jehanabad and Ghosi constituencies, respectively, said: “Atri police station house officer Chandrashekhar Singh is not doing right thing and he is responsible for atrocities on poor and dalits. Many times, I have complained but nothing has happened. However, superintendent of police (rural) S.P. Sahay has noticed his activities and said that he would take action against him but nothing has changed even after a month.”

Khopde took out his cellphone and called up Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nishant Kumar Tiwari and briefed him about Ramashray’s complaint.

Before leaving the janata durbar, Ramashray told The Telegraph: “I do not think anything will change even though I have visited the chief minister’s janata durbar. No doubt Nitish gave me personal attention but the system is not correct. Let’s see what will happen in this case but the ground reality is really bad.”

Khopde said: “I have spoken to Gaya SSP and have asked him to look into the matter. If the SHO is found guilty, action would be taken.”
