This Chhath, devotees would not face much hassle in offering obeisance to the Sun god despite the shift in the course of the Ganga. The civic body is determined to develop the diara (riverine) areas properly for the four-day festival.

Instructions in this regard were issued to New Capital circle of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday during a review meeting of the civic body on Chhath preparations. Executive officers of all the four circles have been asked to furnish estimates for various works to be undertaken for Chhath within a week.

“All the executive officers have been asked to give reports on the documents and lessons learnt from the Chhath preparedness work in the previous few years,” said a senior official of PMC.

In another decision, municipal commissioner Kuldip Narayan on Friday sent a proposal to the empowered standing committee of PMC to increase the wages of the sanitation workers from Rs 194 to Rs 250 per day. He also proposed creation of schemes entailing an outlay of Rs 8 lakh for every ward for the development of roads and drains. The scheme has been formulated after the civic body received funds to the tune of Rs 5.77 crore from the state urban development and housing department.

From Friday, the civic body also commenced its “mission sanitation” for the festivities. Based on directives from the urban development and housing department, PMC has ordered over 360 handcarts and Rs 22 lakh has been sanctioned for purchasing brooms, limestone and bleaching powder.

The urban development and housing department has ordered PMC to install 200 streetlights in the New Capital circle, 125 lights in the Bankipore circle, 145 lights in the Kankerbagh circle and another 150 in the Patna City circle by September 24.
