Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) has opened its admission gates wider.

From the next academic session commencing June, the institute will accept scores of Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT) and the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), besides the Common Admission Test (CAT) score.

Till the current academic session, CIMP accepted only CAT scores for admitting students into its management courses.

CIMP director V. Mukunda Das said: "The institute has decided to accept other management entrance test scores so that a large number of students get an opportunity to apply for the management courses."

The director, however, said apart from accepting MAT, XAT and CMAT scores, the institute will accept CAT scores, too.

Madhulima Shekhar, the admission in-charge of the institute, said based on the feedback from various agencies, the institute has come to know that CAT is not too popular among students in the rural areas with majority of the candidates depending on MAT, XAT and CMAT scores for admission in management institutions.

"A large number of students in Bihar don't appear for CAT. They miss the chance of applying for CIMP. Since now we have decided to accept other management entrance test scores, a large number of students will get an opportunity to study here," added Shekhar.

However, it is the students who are most excited with the decision.

Yogesh Narayan, a final-year undergraduate economics student at AN College, said: "It has been observed that CAT is a bit tougher than other management entrance tests. The first option for students who are weak in English, is not CAT but MAT, XAT or other tests. Accepting other management entrance test scores will open CIMP gates for students who don't appear for CAT."

The decision to accept other management entrance test scores can also be a relief to such students, whose last month's CAT wasn't up to the mark.

Sources said the institute will fix a certain cut-off for the four management entrance tests and those students meeting the cut-off will be invited for the interview and group discussion.

Based on the written test, group discussion and interview scores, the institute will bring out the final merit list.

CAT was conducted on November 29, while entrance test for XAT, MAT and CMAT is yet to be conducted.

XAT for admission to 130 management institutions, including Xavier Labour Relations Institute-Jamshedpur, XIM-Bhubhaneswar and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research-Mumbai, will be held on January 3. MAT will be conducted in February. The CMAT will be held on January 17.
