Patna, Sept. 2: The state capital is going to host the Khadi India 47th National Junior Chess Championship for Boys and the 32nd National Junior Chess Championship for girls at Patliputra Sports Complex in Kankerbagh on Sunday.
Approximately 200 players from 26 states are taking part in the Under-19 Championship. The maximum number of players (17) are from Bengal.
Championship convener Naveen Upadhyay, said: 'The event will be inaugurated by art, culture and youth affairs minister Krishna Kumar Rishi, Khadi Board chairman V.K. Saxena and All India Chess Federation secretary Bharat Singh Chouhan at 2.30pm.'
The Chess Championship is sponsored by Khadi India, an autonomous body of the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).
Upadhyay said the Championship will end on September 11, 2017, in which chief minister Nitish Kumar will distribute the prize among winners.
'Chief minister Nitish Kumar ji has given his consent to be present on the concluding day. Four International Masters and three Women International Masters are taking part in this Championship. An Eleven-round Swiss Open Championship is the qualifying event for the Asian and World Junior Chess Championship,' said Upadhyay.
The host team is being lead by current national junior champion Kumar Gaurav.
This is the second time a national chess championship has been organised in Patna. Earlier, it was organised in 1992.
